Welcome to Digital Media with Mrs. Smollar
My name is Mrs. Sally Smollar, and I am the school librarian at Plumosa School of the Arts.
I have a B.S and M.L.I.S from Florida State University in Library and Information Science and a certificate in Library Leadership and Management.
In addition to providing library services to the children and faculty, I teach a class
in Digital Media to students in grades 3, 4 & 5 in our Apple iMac lab. We use technology as a tool for learning,
gathering information and
sharing
knowledge. My students are engaged in a variety of creative projects and in the process, they learn to collaborate and solve problems.
Our research projects are designed to engage the students sense of curiosity about the world around them, from diving into sea turtles in Belize to learning about Lowland Mountain Gorillas in Eastern Africa. Whether we are learning about nutrition and food waste or cooking up recipes, students work in groups to create their own knowledge, and present that information using a variety of technology tools.
My goal for my students is to be able to engage in project-based learning activities with the 4C's: Collaboration, Communication, Creativity and Critical Thinking.
